Whitneyville "No. 1 1/2" .32 Rim Fire Pocket Revolver
Eli Whitney's armory at Newhaven, CT was widely known as "Whitneyville", a name Eli Sr. himself chose and promoted. The "Whitneyville" pocket revolvers are well known, and well made.
This one is the .32 caliber model, known as the "1 1/2". It has a nickel plated barrel and cylinder, and a brass frame. The gun is in fine condition, and the action is strong and crisp. The cylinder indexes and locks properly. The bore of the 3 1/4 inch barrel is very good, with strong rifling . The walnut grips are very fine, without damage scrapes and dings. Sharp markings and matching numbers on the barrel, cylinder, pin and frame.

History & Background
Eli Whitney may have been one of the most important inventors in American history. The perfection of his cotton gin – a machine which made the separation of cotton fibers from the plant fast and easy - in 1793 changed the economy and social structure of the young USA forever, foreshadowing the civil war, and the end to slavery. Whitney’s inventive genius did not stop at the cotton gin however, and he would become known as the single largest manufacturer of firearms in his day. Samuel Colt was so impressed with Whitney’s capabilities that he awarded him the entire contract for manufacture of his newly invented Walker revolvers while his own factory was being built. Whitney’s son Eli Jr. would take over the company in 1831 and over his lifetime achieved a level of fame and reputation on the same level as Colt, Smith and Wesson, and Remington. The “Whitneyville Armory” in New Haven, CT was one of the largest arms manufactures in America until its sale to Winchester in 1888. No other American maker can match the variety of muskets, rifles, handguns and shotguns designed and manufactured as Whitney.
