MAS French Service Revolver Mle1873, 11mm French Ordnance
The Manufacture d' Armes St. Etienne manufactured the Mle 1873 from that year until 1887, for a total of about 337,000 pieces. The gun remained in service throughout WW I and well into the 1940's as a popular side arm among the French Resistance. It is a design by Chamelot & Delvigne, and was France's first double-action military revolver.
This one is in great condition. It is dated 1875. The action is strong and accurate and the cylinder indexes and locks up without play. The bore of the 4 1/2 inch barrel is excellent and bright, with sharp rifling. The walnut grips are very good, with almost complete sharp checkering. The markings and numbers are sharp and complete, and match everywhere even on the screw heads. The gun is chambered for the 11mm French Ordnance cartridge but the cylinder can be easily modified to accept .45 Webley or 45 ACP cartridges. SN F50570.
