For sale is my beautiful antique Remington No. 4, also known as the Smoot No. 4. Bright shiny nickel finish. These were used for personal protection in the late 1800s.

Chambered in 38RF which can still be shot today! No PAL is required to purchase and own this awesome history piece.

I would estimate the nickel to be around 97% intact. Most of the ones you'll find on gunpost are dull in finish and/or pitted/flaked. If you are a serious purchaser I will send you high-res video/photos as requested. Usually these have a nickel hammer too, but some of them were made with blued hammers. The even the underside of the hammer is not nickeled, so I believe this was one of the rarer blued hammer ones. Not sure on all of the history on it.

Mechanically it is crisp. Good lockup. Good timing. Half cock functional. Bore has minor black powder spots but rifling is sharp and bright. Serial numbers matching. Markings on the top of the barrel are sharp.

This example has the best nickel I have seen on a No. 4 in person. Literally no flaking at all on the back strap which is often where they flake badly. It’s not perfect but for being about 150 years old it’s pretty impressive.

I am a trusted 5 star user on gunpost with the same username.
