If you have not tried silage bales before there are several advantages:
- plant quality starts to degrade immediately upon cutting; this feed was made within 24-48 hours of cutting
- preserves the feed through fermentation with minimal nutrient and harvest loss (more fine material such as plant leaves are captured in the bale silage process)
- high moisture and lack of air within the sealed bale promotes fermentation with preserves forage quality
- silage is more easily digestible and more palatable resulting in better feed utilization and less feed loss / wastage
