Howdy Townpost! I picked this old Colt up in the USA not too long ago and I am now looking to sell it. This is a later iteration a Richards-Mason type conversion done by Colt at the factory. This pistol was made new at the Colt factory as a purpose built cartridge revolver rather than being made from old percussion 1849 parts. The low serial number is what indicates this, this revolver was made most likely in 1875-1876. The revolver has 3.5" barrel with a bore diameter of 0.375" for .38 rimfire bullets or round-balls. This would actually be a prohibited class firearm if not for it's antique status.
The condition of the revolver is good, with about 30% of the original factory nickel and the cylinder scene still being visible and recognizable as the "Stage-coach robbery scene" as was the same on the 1849 Pocket models. The mechanical function of the revolver is excellent. The timing, indexing, lockup and trigger mechanism are excellent. The cylinder has very little play when the cylinder is locked up and the hammer is in the full-cock position. The bore is in fair condition showing typical light pitting from black powder. The lands and grooves are reasonably sharp and should have no issues putting a spin on the correct size bullet or round-ball. The chambers are in excellent condition. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot this little revolver.
This revolver is all matching with the exception of the cylinder pin which is not visible until you disassemble the revolver. Otherwise, this is a completely numbers matching gun.
I gave the revolver a quick and non invasive cleaning and a fresh little bit of gun oil.
