C.S. Shattuck Side-Swing Revolver, .32 Rim Fire Pocket Revolver, RARE Star Extractor
Charles S. Shattuck of Hatfield Massachusetts was a very talented and forward-looking inventor. In 1879 he had a revolver design patented in which the cylinder swings out to the side. This meant that the cylinder and pin did not have to be removed separately, and therefore could not be dropped or lost in the process of reloading. This one is the even rarer variant which has a spring-loaded star extractor. There is no other maker who used this advanced design.
This one is in excellent condition. The nickel plating is nearly 100% intact, without any flaking or rubbed off areas. The action is accurate, and the cylinder indexes and locks properly. The bore of the 2 5/8 inch barrel is very good, with sharp rifling without bumps and ripples. The mother-of-pearl grips are very fine,

History & Background
Charles S. Shattuck of Hatfield Mass. was a very imaginative inventor, and as early as 1879 he had realized the advantages of a swing-out cylinder design. It would take Colt another ten years to incorporate this feature in one of their own models. Shattuck made two models using the swing-out cylinder, first in the .32 pocket revolver, and a short while later in a Bull Dog style revolver of larger caliber. Shattuck also invented a very rare palm pistol.
