History & Background
The Norwich Arms Co. was first in business from about 1863 to 1865, supplying muskets to the Union troops during the civil war. Business operations were halted after the war, but revived as a small pistol manufacturer in the early 1870’s, as the Rollin White patent expired and the demand for pocket revolvers soared. The company was owned and controlled by Freeman W. Hood of Hood Firearms. The Norwich Arms Co. is also known as the Norwich Falls Pistol Co. The company remained in business until the mid-1880’s. Otis Smith had a controlling interest in the Norwich Falls Pistol Co. during its last years in operation.
